I became a caregiver of one, my mom, on August 11, 2019. I became a caregiver of two, my mom and my partner, on December 21, 2021.
My 94-year-old mother Joy has age-related dementia, and lives two hours from my home. I go back and forth to care for her, and usually spend weekends with her. My partner of 20+ years, Tony, has early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease. His care is daily, and his decline is steady. In addition to those I care for, I am also a Licensend Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
In essence, caregiving is literally my entire life.
This is a blog (and a book in the making) about my experience as a caregiver. It is my way of sorting through a myriad of emotions that I must battle daily in order to keep caregiving for those in my charge. It is my hope that, through this website, I can build of community of shared experience with other caregivers.
Thank you for joining me on my journey.
